Last season was statistically very good – a fifth- place finish and Europa Conference League qualification, but the football was awful to watch. Many supporters complained how bad it was.

The big talking point is how to get to away tie( s) in the Conference League. Hopefully we’ll still be in it beyond July.

Our key player will be striker Kevin van Veen [ above]. His goals are vital.

I won’t be happy unless we start to play attractive football, with players in their correct positions. Our most underrated player is Callum Slattery, left out of midfield for a large part of last season.

Fans think our ground is fine the way it is, despite the eccentricity of all four stands at Fir Park being different sizes. The active player I’d love to have back is ‘ King’ Louis Moult.

The thing my club really gets right is generally its social media output, but they did read the room wrongly more than once last term. Fans think our owners are great, as they own our club via the Well Society. I’m least looking forward to playing

Kilmarnock under boss Derek Mcinnes. A probable awful war of attrition.

Look out for local boy Dean Cornelius [ below] – after a number of starts last season, this could be a breakout year for our 21- year- old midfielder. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is definitely split. There’s a section who want Graham Alexander sacked for the awful football, while others are happy winning games and finishing fifth. If he stays, we’ll be stuck with attritional football that’s poor to watch but the team will pick up points. It’s all achieved having little possession and playing the percentages. If he left, he should be replaced by

Keith Lasley, his assistant.

The player I’d happily drive to another club is none of them, really. I’m sure many would suggest Nathan Mcginley, but I’m not too bothered either way with this squad. The pantomime villain will be Van

Veen, for sure. The one change I’d make would be to improve the engagement with fans from the club and the Well Society. We’ll finish 10th.

FFT VERDICT

9TH

The Well, used to being written off, could make a mockery of this prediction but they’ll need to find a goalscorer to complement battering ram Van Veen. Scotland squad keeper Liam Kelly is vital, while tempting right- back Paul Mcginn to Fir Park is good business.
