first times, last times with wafia

First time you did something musical? I’m sure it was something like singing Shania Twain into the back of my hairbrush. Last time you consumed something that moved you? “Evergreen” by YEBBA. I’ve been unable to listen to anything else since I heard it three days ago. First time you got a really bad haircut? When I was 12, I convinced my parents I needed bangs. I didn’t realise that when you have curly hair, your fringe won’t automatically straighten itself. To distract people from my ugly cut, I paired it with blonde foils that then turned green because I loved swimming too much.

Last time you got butterflies? Before and after every show!

First time your parents heard your music? It was a song I wrote on a $60 nylon-string guitar from ALDI. My dad was so proud – every time we had guests, he’d make me come out and sing it to them. Last time you laughed so hard you cried? Watching a video mash-up of Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” where his line about Jamba Juice gets repeated. First time you knew music was the right thing to pursue? My second year of uni, when I fell out of love with my science degree. Last time you were starstruck? When I met Marcus Mumford at the triple j offices. I told him I was at the barrier for his Brisbane show back in 2012, and he was so nice about it.
