a chat with our cover artist, cecilia castelli

Who are you and where are you from? Hi! I’m Cecilia Castelli, an Italian illustrator based in Varese – a small city near Milan. How do you describe

your style of art? Flat and minimal. I define my illustrations as ideas translated into images, in the simplest way possible. Always with a sense of humour. What kinds of materials do you use?

I sketch in a notebook, but as my process is mostly digital, I couldn't live without Adobe Illustrator. It’s fast and allows me to change colours or shapes with a click or two. Is there a story behind this particular

design? I made this illustration two years ago during a lunch break, while I was working as a graphic designer in an agency. I was bored and needed to refresh my mind. After posting it on Instagram, I received my first commission as an illustrator and my career started. I consider it my lucky charm! What do you listen to or watch while drawing? I listen (and dance) to loads of music while drawing. I don’t have a particular genre, but lately I’m really into soul classic songs, like Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Barry White and The Temptations. What’s something unusual we should know about you? I love plants, but sadly, when I buy them they rarely

survive. What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on three projects right now, but I can’t reveal anything yet! You’ll find out very soon.
