Dear frankie

DROP US A LINE, WON’T YOU?

Dear frankie, At 17, I decided to pursue a career in ballet. Over the past year, I’ve stood in classes fumbling, hopping and skipping, trying to look graceful, trying to breathe, and trying to replicate the plié the (experienced) six-year-olds before me were executing. I’ve been a little too goofy, a little uncoordinated, a little too ‘different’. But frankie, you cheered me up in issue 92 with tales of female space wanderers, CD balancers and soft-serve sellers. Thank you for sharing the message that we can all pursue the dreams we want, no matter how unique or challenging they may be. Big love, Laura xx

Dear frankie, I’ve been reading you for many years now, but I thought as I moved through my 30s I might become too daggy for you. I’m so happy to open you up every two months and continue to feel like I’m home. As I’ve discovered more about myself, I’ve found so many ‘ah-ha’ moments within your beautiful pages. You feature the most wonderful of everything, and as a Piscean, introverted empath, my golly gosh, I just adore you. Love, Aly x

Dear frankie, Thank you for your feature on Dee and Desmond in issue 92’s Homebodies section. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about their story since I read it, and it really put some things into perspective for me. After a little cry, Dee and Des’s story was the reminder I needed that life is precious, and light can always be found. Sending love to their creative family, on Earth and amongst the stars. Gemma xx

Dear frankie, I want to sincerely thank Katie Cunningham for her incredible balls to celebrate her singleversary. I, too, have fielded the “seeing anyone?” questions, pursed lips and claims that my standards are too high, but, to be quite honest, dating myself is the easiest and most fun relationship I’ve ever had! When my singleversary swings around in January, you can rest assured I’ll have a cocktail in hand and a table for one at the ritziest establishment I can find. Ash

Dear frankie, Seven years ago, my then-boss thrust an issue of you into my hands as a get-well present for a surgery I was having. A year later, my mum handed me another edition to idle my time away as I recovered from jaw surgery. A distraction of the most delightful type! Fast forward to now, as I stumble through recovery from another operation – it is you who is again by my side to read with a cup of hot chai. A comfort in the dullest of days, when the wind nips and the pain bites. Thanks for being my recovery buddy! Maddy x

THE LETTER OF THE ISSUE WINS A PAIR OF GEORGIA PERRY APOLLO SUNGLASSES, RRP $130, FROM GEORGIAPERRY.COM

Hi frankie, It’s as if Giselle Au-nhien Nguyen’s “Grown-ups in Revolt” was written for me. I got my first tattoo just a few days shy of my 30th birthday. I now have another, and I relate to the struggle of pursuing my desires, despite the fear of people’s judgment. So many things make us feel helpless and out of control in this life. I can’t get rid of my stretch marks or right so many of the wrongs in the world, but I can be in charge of my body and my skin and the art I choose to wear on it. Getting tattoos made me feel empowered and brave, and I’m so glad I’m in a place now where I care more about what I think than what others do. Eliza x
