First times, last times with montaigne

-

First time you realised you could make music your career? Probably when I was 19 and touring with San Cisco in Brisbane. I’d write music whether I was being paid or not, but that was the first time I felt like I had something worth people throwing their money at. Last time you felt really proud of yourself? When I released my album Complex earlier this year. The overriding feeling on the day of release was anxiety, but I’m really proud of that record. First time you played music for someone? I have a vivid memory of performing “Angel” by Sarah Mclachlan with a friend at grandparents’ day in year 7. Last time you finished a book? A week ago. It was Healing the Divide, which is an anthology of poetry. First movie you cried in? My memory isn’t great, but I’m pretty sure I cried while watching Elf, the Will Ferrell Christmas movie. Last time you set aside some time for yourself? Just yesterday. I go to my local café every day and journal for an hour and 45 minutes. I’m very self-helpy and am constantly trying to figure out my brain, so I think putting it down on paper is a useful way to keep track of myself. What is omitted is really interesting, too – whatever’s on the page is how you want to see yourself.
