CRAFT

- PIP LINCOLNE CRAFTER AND AUTHOR

Why tradition do you of crafting do what in you my do? family, There’s and a when long I mum make and things nanna. I feel I also that I’m love connecting making things to my because it encourages others to be creative, too. How do you know when a project is finished and you should walk away? Despite loving colour and pattern, I also love simplicity, so I tend not to get too tricksy or embellish things. Putting things away for a day or two is helpful, too. You can come back with fresh eyes and make better decisions. What's the best way to connect with like-minded creative types?

I love real-life meet-ups, but if you can’t manage that, Instagram is pretty brilliant when it comes to connecting crafty types. You can find your craft heroes on there, you can find crafty inspiration, and you can find your new crafty best friend.

What obstacles have you come up against in your career? Always, always, always not making enough money. But, that said, I’ve always had a bread-and-butter job so I can keep making things, writing craft books and creating how-tos to share online. What frustrates you about the craft scene at the moment? We need to work much harder to celebrate and share the work of crafters from across a whole spectrum of experiences and origins. Craft should be inclusive and also honour and respect the roots of many of its skills and motifs. What are you looking for

in this year’s Good Stuff awards? Someone who can interpret skills many crafters are familiar with in interesting and beautiful ways. Someone who puts themselves into their work. Any final

words for Good Stuff entrants? Please give it a shot! We need to see your work, and developing your entry may be just what you need to take your practice and passion to the next level.
