Exploring tokyo with textile designer yuri himuro

Hello! Who are you and what do you do? Hello! I’m a textile designer based in Tokyo. I design fabrics – not just the patterns, but also the weaving structure. My textile brand is YURI HIMURO. How did you start out as an artist? I studied textile design at Tama Art University in Japan, and at Aalto University in Finland as an exchange student. I created a work called SNIP SNAP as my graduation project. What is SNIP

It’s a jacquard weaving textile that allows you to snip and snap with scissors to arrange its design. You can cut the surface yarn to reveal new details – it becomes a process of creation, instead of destruction.
