O ce upon a time we went on a road trip around icela d.

-

It was an otherworldly experience – every hour of driving brought forth a totally new terrain, from snow-topped mountain peaks to moss-covered lava fields and vast, uninhabited plateaux. One day, we stopped to watch water shoot up out of the ground (smelling much more fart-like than you might expect). Another time, we pulled over in a snow storm to do an emergency wee on the side of the road (you really test your squatting skills when there are icy balls pelting sideways at your head). Then there were the many, many horses – with long, glamorous, flowing locks – that we took the time to stop and pat. It was a meandering drive filled with endless surprises – which is all you could ask of a road trip, really.

Though overseas (and interplanetary) jaunts may be off limits right now, it’s a great time to jump in a car, bus or caravan and check out what our own backyard has to offer. Spoiler: there’s a helluva lot. Perhaps not Icelandic stallions or rogue jets of steamy fart water, but the scenery is pretty damn jaw-dropping – not to mention the country baked goods. (If in doubt, choose the good old snot block.) xx Sophie and the frankie team
