What is your ultimate passion? Lindsey Troy: Songwriting and recording. I’m a studio rat. Julie Edwards: Failure analysis, which means you can often find me making lists, improving systems, testing theories and deconstructing past variables. What do you tend to dream about? LT: Travelling to very distant, exotic lands. I think that means it’s time to get out my passport. JE: Old houses. Architecture makes me horny. Favourite Deap Vally lyric? LT: “Gonna make my own money, gonna buy my own land.” We wrote that the first year we were a band. I just love how straight-up, confident and full of intention it is. JE: Mine is “Stranger in the bar tells me to smile more/i look at him and I ask, what for?” Lindsey wrote that on a day off in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Being asked to smile more has been the bane of my existence my whole adult life due to my pronounced resting bitch face. What do you believe in? LT: Composting – it’s easy to do and good for the environment. JE: Remaining neutral, because it allows me to listen and process all sides, and consider underlying motivations and circumstances. What inspires you? JE: Young people, because they know what’s going on, and criminal justice reformers, because they’re doing the deep thinking and hard work. LT: People and nature, because no two snowflakes are quite alike, just like people. Isn’t that something?
