Who are you and where are you from? Hi, everyone! I am an artist from Spain. Describe your artistic style in five words. Feminine, surreal, poetic, spiritual and romantic. Tell us about your typical process. First, an idea comes to my mind and I think about the composition and the colour scheme. I draw many figures to have different options, and then I play with different elements and textures to create the background: the seabed. Then I set the final composition. What have you used to create this piece? This artwork is a handmade mixedmedia piece. I used Canson cardboard, fabric, threads and a polypropylene sheet to create it, placing all of these elements inside a wooden box. I painted the figures using acrylics and colour pencils. What kinds of things inspire your art? There are many: a personal experience, an impression, a landscape, literature, poetry, dance and music. All can become part of my artwork. Some days I wake up with a good repertoire of ideas from my dreams, too. Of course, there are also artists who are a constant source of inspiration for me: Goya; Picasso; Hieronymus Bosch; Joseph Cornell; Yves Klein; Tamara de Lempicka; Gustav Klimt; artists from the Romantic era; and many of the 20th-century avant-garde artists, illustrators and photographers. What are the beaches like in Spain? We have a diverse array of places to go swimming, from beaches with fine sand to spectacular spots hidden in the rocks. There are beautiful places bathed by the Atlantic Ocean for those who love cold water, and gorgeous beaches in the Mediterranean for those who prefer a warmer climate. Where can we see more of your work? I share pictures, videos and news about my work on Instagram at @soniaalins and on Facebook at @soniaalinsart. People can also visit my portfolio at soniaalins.com.
