Hi Janelle, tell us a bit about yourself. Bonjour! I’m based in a Parisian suburb full of people with tiny dogs, bakeries on every corner and cute parks. My typical day starts with a banana smoothie and I’ll watch a news livestream before I start work for the day. At night, I’m either watching TV, doodling on my ipad, studying French or playing chess online. Tell us about the making of this cover. I really took a trip down memory lane to my childhood, when I’d walk home from primary school, smelling eucalyptus trees, picking bottlebrush and Geraldton waxflowers, but not picking kangaroo paws because they’re too good for that. I combined florals and Indigenous patterns throughout the cover. The arches actually represent people, so the cover could be us Australians living in our floral paradise. What do you enjoy drawing most? Portraits of strong women mostly, but recently I’ve gotten into drawing scenes from cafés. Probably because I’m always hungry. What do you listen to when you’re drawing? I’ve made a ’90s playlist, so a lot of tunes from my teen years. What do you do when you’re in need of inspiration? I’ll do things that make me happy, like go to a museum, take my bike out, get lost in Paris, watch old movies from my childhood or talk to friends about their recent creative projects. What can we find you doing on a Sunday? Watching a French television show called Très Très Bon.

It’s a group of food journalists going out to all types of cafes, restaurants and bakeries. Where can we see more of your work? You can catch me on Instagram at @janelleburger.
