Fire crews stop fuel leak after boat issues at Bay Marina

Fraser Coast Chronicle - - GOOD MORNING FRASER COAST -

TWO fire crews were required to contain a fuel leak at the Hervey Bay Marina at the weekend.

Officers from Torquay Fire Station were called to the marina about 8am yesterday following reports of fuel leaking into the water from a fishing boat.

It is not known how the leak started.

Torquay Fire Station officer Scott Castree said the fuel was decanted from the boat by the crews on scene.

Because some of the fuel had leaked into the water, officers used an absorbent to prevent it from spreading further.

The power in the vicinity of the leak was isolated in order to eliminate any ignition sources.

Some residents were not able to access their vehicles during the process.

Mr Castree thanked everyone at the marina for their patience.
