Sew busy stitching bags

Fremantle Gazette - - NEWS -

RESIDENTS at the Bethanie Illawong Aged Care Facility in Hamiliton Hill have been making a difference to the environment. Every Friday afternoon the residents have been cutting, sewing and stitching fabric shopping bags because of the plastic bag ban. Bethanie Illawong facility manager Barbara Walton came up with the idea a few weeks ago as she had a heap of spare fabric at home. “About two years ago someone was throwing away rolls of fabric, so I rescued them,” she said. “Since then they have been gathering dust, so I thought what better use than getting the residents involved in making their own shopping bags?”
