A MAN who “king hit” another man on the jaw outside a Fremantle restaurant was sentenced to 10 months prison when he appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court.

Jarrad William Nash (21) was found guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm after a magistrateonly trial last week.

On January 3 at 4.20am the victim, Jeremy Fraser Lauedr, had just left Metros nightclub in Fremantle and was walking up South Terrace when an altercation occurred outside Sandrino Cafe and Pizzeria.

A co-accused, who was found guilty of common assault, had an argument with the victim. The victim stumbled back and once he regained his footing, approached Nash.

Nash then struck Mr Lauedr, who fell, and as he was trying to stand up and regain his footing Nash ‘king hit’ him in the jaw.

Mr Lauedr fell backyards, hitting his head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious for 10 minutes before an ambulance arrived.

The victim was placed in an induced coma for about 48 hours. He split his head from the back and required four staples.

Nash admitted to the assault and causing bodily harm. His defence was the assault was out of selfdefence or provocation.

In a video interview with police, which was shown in court, Nash said he hit him before the victim punched him first.

The prosecution presented CCTV footage which showed the assault.

Magistrate Peter Malone said he rejected the claim Nash acted in self-defence or provocation.
