Port Beach restoration
REMEDIATION works have begun at Port Beach to ensure the beach is ready for the summer rush.
Severe storms this year caused erosion at the popular beach, washing away access paths and undermining the southern carpark.
City of Fremantle parks and landscapes manager Ryan Abbott said the City was repairing paths, monitoring dunes and reinforcing the carpark.
He said work that started last week was the final step to have the beach ready for summer.
“The erosion over winter was quite significant, but over the past few months the natural changes in the weather and coastal conditions have seen the sand build up again and beach is looking great,” he said.
“There are about 40 parking bays at Port Beach that have been fenced off for safety reasons after they were undermined in the storms.
“The works the City will be undertaking over the next few weeks will remove the undermined sections of the carpark, provide for additional dune establishment and install a new walkway and fencing.
He said the remaining works were expected to take about two weeks, providing the weather was “kind”.
