New berth at Harbour

THE Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour has a new restaurant on board. Helm, formerly Creatures NextDoor, has been renovated and officially opened its door last week.

FREMANTLE’S latest venue Helm wants to create a dining experience that is all smooth sailing for its guests.

The venue, formerly known as Creatures NextDoor, has been renovated and officially opened its doors last week.

Helm head of hospitality Graeme Dick said they wanted to create something different in the fishing harbour.

“We went to the museum and spent some time learning the history of the harbour itself and the building,” he said.

“Because the shape of the building was originally meant to be the bridge of the ship and built around the America’s Cup, the theme plays well into the name Helm.

“From an experience point of view, when you are on a ship the captain is at the helm– we want people to feel comfortable and relaxed and that someone is looking after you.”

Mr Dick said seafood was a cornerstone of the restaurant.

“We have a Mediterranean theme, with seafood being a big driver, and a woodfire grill,” he said.

Mr Dick said Helm would be doing cocktails along with a variety of beers and wines.

“We liked the idea of feeling relaxed and having a holiday cocktail. We have a nice range of spirits and wines that have been chosen to match the food,” he said.
