Getting rhythmic with Event Boss

We love using an Octocontroller with the Event Boss, but any clock, gate/trigger and modulation source will work. Let’s find out how…

-

01 >

The first global mode is Variables. Patch up a sequence with your gate pattern going into input A on the Event Boss and use an LFO to the B input to carve out single or multiple gates, creating rests to adjust how ‘dense’ your pattern feels.

02 >

Global Mode 2 is Multiples. Take a clock signal into input A and take its output to trigger a drum sound. Using local mode 2 you can use a CV signal into input B to multiply the clock, creating bursts and ratchets for your percussion.

03 >

Go into global Mode 3 Probability and patch your gate pattern into the Event Boss. Using a voltage into input B you can use external signals to adjust the probability that the gate will pass through. This gives you performable rhythmic manipulation by turning a knob.

04 >

You don’t need to understand Boolean Logic to understand the logic mode. You simply need two different patterns for the Event Boss to work with. With two inputs, try using an LFO to modulate local mode select to change logic types under CV control.

05 >

With the Phase mode we can channel our inner Steve Reich, executing Flying Lotus-style wonky rhythms, perfect flams, drags and custom grooves with ease. Use a clock signal to the input and patch in a voltage to input B to manipulate the phase shift.

To globally change the notes within a region, Select All before adjusting the parameters of your choice – these offsets will affect other notes beyond the one you’ve selected. Hold down Ctrl before clicking a note and choosing Set To Perfect Pitch to centralise the middle of each note’s pitch correctly.
