MODULAR & EURORACK
Best of the rest…
Roland System 500
Roland dropped an assortment of additions to their System 500 range this year. For us, the highlight was the 510 Synth – a fully-wired synth voice that brings to mind the warm, full lows of the classic SH-02. The 505 VCF – based on the SH-5 – is a beast of a filter too though.
4MS Stereo Sampler
4MS’s dual stereo sampler module boasts a huge capacity, intuitive interface and high-quality sound; plus it comes with a 16GB memory card packed full of excellent samples from the likes of Moor Mother, Richard Devine and Baseck. A standout in a crowded market.
Winter Modular Eloquencer
The Eloquencer is all about randomisation, but doesn’t forsake musicality and precision. With eight CV and gate outs, it’s perfect for controlling multiple voices or drum tracks, and its sequencer lets users tailor randomisation – from subtle glitches to all-out madness.
Mutable Instruments Plaits
The spiritual successor to Mutable’s much-loved Braids, simultaneously simplifies and expands upon the features of its predecessor. The result means less menu diving but increased creativity thanks to an expanded crop of CV inputs. This is sure to be another future classic.
Instruo Cš-L
Ex-Qu-Bit Electronix developer Jason Lim has created an impressive line of modules since branching out on his own under the Instruo name. The Cš-L is his take on the complex oscillator concept, and it’s a mighty impressive one. Will keep sound designers busy for days.
