Teenage Engineering 16, 170 and 400
Korg aren’t the only brand getting in on the ‘budget’ modular market in 2019. Teenage Engineering, in their latest innovative move, have expanded their wallet-friendly Pocket Operator range to include a trio of flat-packed, self-assembly modular synth kits, named the 16, 170 and 400. Ranging in price from $149 to $499, each kit maintains the affordable and accessible ethos of the PO range, while also being expandable for those wanting to dive deeper into the world of modular synthesis; patch points are 3.5mm and formatted to standard modular specifications, so the systems can therefore be used alongside a fully-fledged Eurorack setup.
According to TE, the cases for each system are made of foldable, ‘almost disposable’ aluminium, designed to offer a cost effective case for the preconfigured setups which can then be adapted or ditched entirely should users want to expand their setup. Right now, the modules are only available as part of these three pre-configured systems – listed below – but individual modules will be available later in the year.
