In the studio with… Gernot Bronsert

-

“The studio was in the centre of Berlin, in Hackescher Markt, in a kind of squat. We moved around floors there, but when everything was set up and running perfectly you would turn the room light off and see hundreds of LEDs from all the machines, blinking. It was like a landing strip. We had the 808, the 707, MC-202, 303, 909… all the classic Roland stuff and Korg synths.

“We had a PowerBook with OS9 and 10, running Logic Platinum. The album was a pure Logic production. We used Pluggo and Reaktor a lot. And all stuff we couldn’t do with that we had to make our own software to make the glitches.

“The speakers we found in the street. They didn’t have much bass so we compensated; it made everything sound heavy.

“The process of making this album was based on the gear and the software we had. So when we got some new plugins or a new synthesiser, or whatever, we transformed that into tracks and collected them all together into one album.”
