Some high-tech solutions to mixing have emerged recently. Soundtheory Gullfoss, for example, uses a model of human auditory perception to process a signal in a similar way to an EQ for both mixing and mastering, similarly to the vocoder trick above. Newfangled Audio’s range of mixing and mastering tools use similar processes, delivering intelligent limiting, EQ and transient shaping. Elsewhere, Zynaptiq Intensity is a sound ‘intensifier’, that detects what’s special about the audio on the channel it’s on, and accentuates those characteristics, so that if placed on multiple channels, each sounds “more like itself”.
