Individual tracks in an Ableton Live project

Let’s try out Overbridge’s ability to individually record each track – then save the project as a template

-

01 > The first step is to make sure Overbridge mode is enabled on the Digitakt. Go to Settings > System and make sure Overbridge mode is selected in the USB configuration page. You’ll also want to make sure that Clock Receive is turned on in the Sync page.

02 > In Ableton, start by creating a new MIDI track and drag the Digitakt VST plugin onto the track. The plugin verison of Overbridge 2.0 works with any VST host (AU versions are currently still forthcoming).

03 > You should now hear any audio from your Digitakt through that MIDI channel. However, we want to capture each track individually, so create nine new audio tracks. Eight of these will be for tracks 1-8 on the Digitakt; the last will be a stereo track to capture the main output.

04 > To record tracks individually, select Digitakt in the ‘Audio From’ menu on each. In the second dropdown, select tracks 1 through 8 as you move through your tracks. On the ninth, select ‘Digitakt Post FX’ for the main stereo output. Now insert effect plugins can be applied on each track, if desired.

05 Make sure that sync is turned on within the Overbridge plugin. Hitting play will now start the Digitakt sequencer, and all of your audio tracks in Ableton should be seeing signal directly from the Digitakt. In Live’s preferences, we save our project as the Default Set, to have this setup available every time we open up the DAW.
