Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3

Novation’s clip-focused Ableton Live controller is something of a modern classic. Version three is a cut above its predecessors though, thanks to the standalone polyphonic sequencer that means the Launchpad is now useful not only without Ableton Live, but even untethered from a computer entirely.

Novation have been perfecting their sequencer game in recent years, through pad-based devices like Circuit and Mono Station. The Launchpad Pro learns a lot from these, resulting in an intuitive and refined workflow that makes both melodic and rhythmic sequencing a breeze, even without a screen to rely on.

As a MIDI controller, the Pro 3 benefits from larger pads, neat chord and scale modes, and a selection of custom setups that can be easily setup via Novation’s browser-based Components app.

Although Ableton Live control is still core to Launchpad, it’s no longer the sole draw. The standalone sequencer means the Pro can slot into a hardware setup. And it works great with Logic 10.6 too – it can control the clip launcher, navigate around your project and play instruments.
