Modulation in reverb helps you to ‘animate’ the decay tail. It’s not necessarily a feature that’s true to real acoustics, but in emulating the right sound, it’s a staple process. Neoverb’s little modulation section lets you choose the shape of the signal (square or sine), plus its Rate and Depth. There’s also a handy X/Y controller that sets both the rate and depth from one parameter, letting you experiment with, say, high rate and low depth; or low rate and high depth. In reverb, the difference is subtle.
