Digital love

-

It’s interesting how trends work in electronic music. I remember almost exactly 10 years ago, getting my hands on a Korg Monotribe for the first time, and the excitement that came with having a genuine analogue instrument priced at a mass market level. Obviously in the years that followed, affordable analogue blew up – if you want VCOs on a budget there are countless directions you could go. Now here we are in 2021, and the synths that are exciting us most (on the whole) are those that break away from the analogue orthodoxy and embrace the power of DSP. Casein-point, this issue’s cover star and lead review – Korg’s Modwave – which joins the excellent Wavestate and Opsix amongst our list of must-try digital synths.

That’s how these things go, I guess. I’ll see you in a few years for the analogue revival.
