> For more than 20 years now, Ableton Live has been the go-to software for live performance, be it electronic music, live looping, bands, soloists – all of them. It achieved this status with a nonintimidating interface, and the play-time feel of the Session View, where jamming with samples and instruments reached a new peak. What started as a straightforward audio looping tool has evolved, adding MIDI, and integrated instrument devices such as Wavetable. Max For Live arrived to allow the design and sharing of customised MIDI and audio devices, and Push arrived in 2013, becoming the hardware controller that compelled others to raise their game. In early 2022, Live 11.1 arrived, adding full support for Apple M1 computers, and bringing yet more new features and workflow improvements. Whether touring or in the studio, Live is still the one to beat.
