A good template

-

“I always have a template, I find it’s a lot easier that way. I’ve been doing this for over VIDEO ON ten years now and I find any FILESILO way to make the process easier and more user-friendly, to keep the creative juices flowing, I’ll definitely go for. It could be as simple as having a template with a few regular VSTs you use, your bus channels, your master chain – anything that can help with the process.

“I have one template I use every single time. I do update it though from time to time. I might have a period where I like to use certain sounds, for example, then that might change because I want to get new sounds in or I start veering towards a new synth. It’s good to keep things fresh.

“I use Logic. I also use Track Stack, which is very important to me in regards to keeping everything organised. My last project had over 100 channels in it so it can get very chaotic when you come to the mixdown stages. This way I can focus on certain elements like the drums or bass.

“Another good point is to name everything. I know a lot of people are probably messy producers, but when it comes to the mixdown process, I find naming everything properly is vital. Just for your own head really. Otherwise it can get really messy.”
