Here’s Xfer Serum playing Wendy Carlos’ Alpha scale, “9 divisions of 3/2”, as the plugin tells us. The number of notes in the radial graph is pared down to 9, and the spikes are positioned quite equally. This scale is derived by taking nine steps of 3/2 – in other words, taking the root frequency, multiplying by 1.5 to establish the next note, and this is repeated. If a note’s frequency crosses the root’s octave, it’s divided by two to fit within the scale once again.
