In The Studio With… Lady Miss Kier

-

“All the songs on World Clique were written and produced at home, then we took them to D&D Studios in New York, with the exception of one song that we recorded in Calliope Studios with Bob Power.

“I got one of the first personal Apple computers off my mom. We were using Studio Vision 2.0 for the software – I don’t think they even make that anymore. Dmitry did the drum programming on there; I did some arranging. We switched to Cubase after that.

“Dmitry had some hardware, too. He had a Yamaha guitar, an SPX-90, and a few keyboards. The original one was a Yamaha DMX7, then he got a Korg S3 later on.

“The real change up was when I got the Akai S700 sampler. It really did feel like a new instrument. It meant that now I could write music with other people’s music.

“We also had backup singers on a song, and horns and bass on a few more, courtesy of Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker.”
