Fills, auto-fills and scatter fills

End-of-section fills and edits are crucial for programming electronic beats, and the TR-8S gives you several options to drop these in via the top-right Auto Fill In section.

First, two ‘main’ fills can be programmed manually. Hold Shift, press the Hold the Auto Fill In On button, and the LCD screen shows a Fill In Edit message. Scroll the Value knob to select either fill 1 or 2, then program steps across the 11 instruments to program your two fill patterns. Next, select the fill you want to trigger: by holding the Auto Fill In On button, and pressing one of the lit-up steps (14-16). Steps 14 and 15 are your two programmed fills, and step 16 is a glitch-style Scatter fill (choose one of 10 Scatter Types via the Ptn Settings menu).

Once selected, begin playback. To drop in the currentlyselected one-bar fill at the next bar, punch the Manual Trig button. If you want your fill to automatically play every second, fourth, eighth, 12th, 16th or 32nd bar, use Auto Fill In to select the right number, then turn this mode On.
