Fuel Management Burn Preparation and Training

Regular rain throughout January saved our local area from a severe bush fire season. However, the brigade has kept busy with fuel management burn preparation, storm clean up and regular training.

Glenorie Brigade training in March was in motor vehicle accident response. Because the nearest Ambulance, Police and NSW Fire & Rescue stations are all approximately 25 minutes from Glenorie, we are often the first emergency vehicle on site. Specialist training ensures our members are equipped to deal with whatever a call requires. Autumn Recruitment – Meet one of our members: Chloe Paton, a 22 year old food technologist who joined Glenorie Brigade in 2014. • Why did you join the brigade? Chloe: “I was 9 when the 2002 bush fires went through Glenorie, which left a lasting impression on me. Since then I developed an interest in joining the Rural Fire Service (RFS) which had helped us and others in the community. I wanted to volunteer in something that would be giving back to my local community, where I could take on real responsibility, learn new skills and balance with work and study.” • What is the best part of being in the brigade? Chloe: “The feeling of making difference, the friendships I’ve developed along the way and the many opportunities to learn and develop new skills and qualifications.”
