Glenorie Mission Church

Theoretically the life of a Christian should be an example to the rest of society, their character beyond reproach and their countenance reflecting the love of Christ. For many this has been the case. Missionaries have faced the grimmest perils to spread the good news without thought of themselves. Just governments have been established on Christian principles. Throughout history there have been Christians who have quietly lived lives of self sacrifice and been used by God. The closer they have walked with their Lord the more like him they have become.

However many Christians struggle to be the people they know they should be. There is selfishness, anger, greed and evidence of sin amongst those in the Church.

To those who have been put off Christianity or prevented from exploring its true meaning by the less than perfect actions of someone claiming to be a Christian, stop, wait a moment, come back and have another look. What has been obstructing you? Have you let the imperfections in a person, a group, or a particular church stop you seeing the perfect, sinless Jesus Christ and God’s love manifest in him? Perhaps you have let your own faults prevent you from drawing near, your own shortcomings, or your own failings. The Bible tells us there is no one righteous, no, not one. All our good deeds are as filthy rags before God. There is nothing we can do to make amends for our transgressions, no possible way in our own strength that we can get right with a Holy and perfect God.

We are all in the same predicament, Christians and non Christians alike. We are all flawed, selfish and sinful. We all suffer from the same frailties and weaknesses. The difference is that true Christians have accepted God’s forgiveness through the death of His precious Son. We have been reconciled to God, not because we have deserved forgiveness but because we have by faith accepted his free gift.

“This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:22-24.
