Galston Public School announces comedy night – new fundraising initiative

-

Galston Public School has announced plans to host a fundraising comedy night for the school, to be held at the Galston Club on Saturday 18th June this year. The night will feature professional acts from four well-known Australian comedians, with all proceeds going to the school to buy new books, updated technology and other educational resources.

The school has a very committed and active Parents and Citizens Association, who take a keen interest in fundraising initiatives as a way to enhance education at the school.

Spokesperson for the Fundraising Committee, Tanya Koorey, said: “We all want our kids to grow up and learn in the best possible environment. We are doing whatever we can to help the school provide the best resources for our kids’ future.”

This is the first time Galston Public School has attempted a comedy night as the school’s main social fundraiser, and the committee is very keen to see it become a success.

“We have got a fantastic line-up of comedians, and we are in a local and friendly venue with great, reasonably-priced food and drinks,” said Tanya. “It should be a great night, especially if we can get enough people to come along and try something a bit different in their local area. For $35 people get to see awardwinning comedians put on a top night of entertainment, at the same time as giving something back to the community through our school.” The line-up includes: • Al De Bene, Comedian of the Year at the L.A. Comedy

Awards; • Sam Bowring, Finalist at the Raw Comedy Nationals and

performer on Rove Live and Stand Up Australia; • Mat Wakefield, who has performed at Sydney Comedy

Festival and Sydney Fringe Festival; • Joe Comino from Houso’s and Fat Pizza, who has won the

prestigious Comedy Court Grand Champion award.

Principal for Galston Public, Mr Rob Jarvis, said: “This is a great initiative from the PandC, and one that makes a huge difference to the resources we can offer our children. The committee does a wonderful job to raise money for the school across many events and social gatherings, and they really do work tirelessly in our school community to make life better for our kids. Please do come along to what will be a great night of entertainment.”

Tickets are $35, and the event starts at 8pm on June 18th at the Galston Club on Arcadia Road, Galston. Food and drinks are available at the venue, and patrons are encouraged to come along early to have a meal and drinks before the show.

Tickets can be purchased from the website: www. comedyforacause.net/galston

The night is for adults only.
