Issue number one being dealt with is the Boral Concrete Upgrade: We extensively advertised the Information Meeting on 13 March and 38 members and residents attended to hear the response from Boral to date.

Boral Concrete representatives engaged with the residents of Glenorie in a positive way and presented these documents for everyone's consideration. In these presentations Boral has responded to the submissions from the Glenorie Progress Association, the Glenorie Pony Club and only two other residents of Glenorie.

They have given their perspective of the key concerns of traffic; noise; safety; visual appearance; operational hours; scale of the proposed upgrade and effects on the character of Glenorie Village.

The only significant alteration to the original proposal is the enclosure of the new slumping stand for noise mitigation. Other concerns yet to be addressed are:

Dust and associated problems; machinery commencing out of current operating hours, height of the communication tower (in comparison with the proposed 21m silos) and provision of artists impressions of likely sight effects from the north, east and west.

Boral has addressed another issue raised of their trucks using the water stand at the bus bay and have issued instructions that NO BORAL TRUCK is to use this facility for filling or washing trucks.

The next step for Boral is the compilation of a newsletter for distribution around the previously identified footprint of residents close to the Batching Plant.

Note that the Boral DA is to be lodged to The Hills Shire Council in the coming month so I again urge all members to submit their concerns and spread the word to ALL who may be affected by the upgrade. You still have an opportunity to have input into a DA PRIOR to its submission!

Issue number two is road safety on Glenorie roads: Your letters about speed limits were sent to the RMS, The Hills and Hornsby Councils, thanks to Authorities Officer Vince. We are awaiting a response.

An event to look forward to is the Solar Information Day on 22 April as part of the series of Lifestyle workshops at the Glenorie Hall. A short presentation will be made at 1:30pm and you can bring your power bill along so our experts can help you “Make sense of Solar. Details are in a report for this event in this magazine on page .

The Environment Centre group has reported on Streamwatch testing highlighting issues with the Glenorie Creek salination and Council is on board checking the conductivity. Also note the intended removal of rubbish including mattresses and furniture from the creek by Council. Sydney Water Reference Group is investigating diverse source nutrient pollution in the Hawkesbury Nepean catchment.

As far as other environmental issues are concerned, our residents, particularly new residents in the area are urged to think about bush care. New residents are attracted to the district for the peace and quiet, native animals, birds and vegetation. Care of the bush is part of living here. Please be aware of Council rules on removing vegetation. We all work towards retaining the ambiance of Glenorie and surrounds while still going forward with developments and the additional infrastructure need to support them.

We hope to have a dedicated 'Associations' noticeboard next to the RFS board for our Glenorie community associations to post information to. This will NOT be a community board for all to use but dedicated to the GPA, Glenorie Hall, Maroota Bioregional Forum, Eastbend etc. Here we hope to keep all residents of the district informed of issues relevant to them. To this end, Woolworth’s management is looking into the matter of a completely new set up of all notices on the wall of Woolworths.

This is a list of items being discussed with Hornsby Councillor Michael Hutchence and Ward A Councillor Warren Waddell:Bus bay - Photos of Illegal dumping were forwarded to HSC Waste Management team and cleaned up. If it becomes an ongoing issue Council can set up portable CCTV units.

Bus bay gardens are to be completed in the near future. The Waste Manager is currently looking for a contractor.

We are advised that signs at the Post Office Road and ONR intersection should relate only to the property in front of which they are placed. However Council is lenient with sport registration signs which can be left only until the season starts.

Very shortly we will have the facility to join the GPA and to renew your membership online and even better news is that if you join or rejoin now it will be included in the 2018/19 year.

We are getting desperate for a Secretary as I am finding it difficult filling the role of President and Secretary. We also need a Public Information Officer to assist in the organization of Public Information evenings. Plus we would like a Membership Officer to look after our membership listings. Many hands etc.…
