The Larapinta Pilgrims

-

When our minister Geoff took a break, he had some of the congregation come along to keep him on track! So Geoff, Richard and Janet and with Danny as support commenced their Larapinta Trail adventure. Here are some of their impressions:

Janet: When Geoff and Richard said they were thinking of walking the Larapinta Trail and would I like to join them, I said yes, thinking that a big walk in the centre of Australia would ÊÕ įŁõļÕ Ť²ļʣ ¥ÕĆĆʞ čĔʞ õļ õĴ čĔļʞ SOOOO not! But it was fun and an absolute adventure.

Danny and I drove out there in Hilda (our loving support 1974 Kombi vehicle - an adventure in itself!) and camped out of the Kombi along the way. She became a very recognisable and much talked about icon of the outback as we drove along! Other hikers were very envious of our catering - we certainly ate well!

The BEST feeling ever and one of my favourite memories was a shower at 3pm one Thursday at Ormiston gorge after not having had one since the previous Monday!!! I took a little longer than the suggested 3 minutes that day!

The challenge and physicality of the walk was massive and something that I couldn’t have predicted. The scenery and company, however, is something I will always remember and treasure. The vast open spaces and the feeling of deep connection to the core of the planet is profound. We really do live in the most amazing country! Geoff: It was incredibly physically and mentally challenging. The desert is a harsh and unforgiving landscape. But - it was awesome! Camping under the stars in Central Australia is beautiful beyond description. Waking every morning to the sound of wild budgies all around Ŗ²Ĵ āĔŘĔŁĴʞ ²čÑ ÕŗĭĆĔİõčë ļñÕ beautiful, diverse and wild country of the West MacDonnell ²čëÕĴ Ŗ²Ĵ ÕŗñõĆ²İ²ļõčëʣ ‹ñÕ beauty, colour and quiet of central Australia is a gift for us all. Richard: The landscape displays steep scree slopes, narrow ridges, deep gorges often with permanent water, and heaps of riverbeds, all of which were dry during our trip.
