care for fruiting figs

Gardening Australia - - YOUR PLANNER -

Mid-winter is the best time to prune fruiting fig trees, especially if you want to restrict their size so you can net them when they’re cropping. Prunings can be used to grow new plants, and they root easily at this time of year. After pruning, spray with a horticultural oil to clean up scale and other insect pests, and sprinkle some dolomite around the base of the tree. Lastly, make a note to yourself to apply fruiting fertiliser in early spring.
