Special blend potting mix for vegies
PHIL DUDMAN shares his recipe for moisture-holding, nutrient-rich potting mix, to use for growing a range of vegetables in containers
1 COVER an outdoor table or potting bench with a plastic sheet, and tip two 9L bucketfuls of regular quality potting mix onto it. Spread it out.
2 ADD one 9L bucket of garden compost. You could use a bagged product if you don’t have your own.
3 SOAK a block of coir peat in water, then add three good handfuls of it.
It’s very good at storing moisture and nutrients that are applied to the mix.
4 MEASURE out your fertilisers using an empty 400g tin. Add two tins of pelletised poultry manure and one tin of blood and bone.
5 SPRINKLE a tight fistful of sulfate of potash over the top of the mix.
6 COMBINE all of the ingredients thoroughly until well blended. Store in a container out of the sun.
