Years ago, a showbag from the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show included a synthetic felt disc called a Pot Mate. Placed into the base of a pot, it allows free drainage, but prevents the loss of potting mix or the ingress of pests. I’ve discovered that synthetic scourers, shaped to fit, make a wonderful substitute, and they’re readily available and reusable.
