Q DO I HAVE TO DIG UP DAHLIA TUBERS EACH YEAR IN MELBOURNE?
Karen, Botanic Ridge, Vic
While Melbourne’s climate may seem dismally wet and cold, it’s not a patch on English winters, where it’s now popular to leave dahlia tubers in situ. Instead of digging them up, prune stems to just above the ground and cover them with a very thick layer of compost before inserting a stick to remind you where they are. Dig up and divide them every three years.
