CREATE AN ESPALIER
Camellias are easy to train, and with glossy evergreen foliage and delightful flowers, they are a good choice for creating an attractive espalier to cover a wall or fence in a narrow bed. Some walls get hot, so make a framework for training that sits about 30cm out from the surface, with two or more posts to support wires or a trellis. Any type of camellia can be espaliered, but fast-growing, sun-tolerant sasanquas make the best subjects. Choose plants that have an open shape with lots of long, pendulous branches for training.
