SHELTER ON THE GO

-

So, you’re just about to race out the door, and the weather report warns that it’s going to be a scorcher. Should you just keep going and risk your most precious plants burning to a crisp? No way! Do what you can to give your babies some sort of shelter. Whip out those offcuts of shadecloth, or if you don’t have any, grab some old curtains or bed sheets, or whatever you have lying around, and toss them over anything that’s heat sensitive. Outdoor furniture, such as chairs, benches, and even small tables, can be positioned to provide quick shade for plants, such as seedlings. Potted plants that you know will suffer can quickly be lifted and dropped into a shady spot until you get home – a trolley will come in handy for moving big pots. Other container plants can be grouped, given a quick drink, then covered with a sheet.
