Top way to end season

ON SATURDAY night, the executive and committee of the Gatton Redbacks put on a junior presentation night to remember. Moving the date and time, as well as providing activities other than soccer, proved to be a recipe for success, with players and their families making it the club’s number one social event of the year.

Club president Samantha Richardson said it was a decision that paid off.

“This was a risk, changing from the traditional junior presentation, but it was a risk we were willing to take,” she said.

“We moved the date from the first weekend of the September school holidays to the first weekend back to school for term 4 and changed the time from 9am to 4.30pm to utilise our fantastic facilities and lights. A big thank-you to all the club members who helped out to make this night so great.”

Apart from the 11 junior teams receiving their end-of-season trophy, there were trophies for coaches’ awards, competition players of the year and club awards that were also handed out.

Coaches Awards went to Jett Gehrke (U6) Hannah Clarke (U7 Red), Bailey Dargusch (U7 Black), Michael Goodin (U7 Gold), Kane Turner (U8), Jayden Jackwitz and James Samuelsen (U9), Holly Bennett (U10), Caelen Richardson (U11), Liam Staatz (U12B), Henk Mueller (U13A), Samuel Mundt and Mackenzie Tovey (U14/15B).

Players of the Year were Mataeya Higgs (U12B), Adam Janke (U13A) and Wilhem Taylor (U14/15B).

The senior presentation is on Saturday, October 26 at 6.30pm at the Gatton Shire Hall. Tickets ($30 each) need to be bought from Dawn Jackwitz or Peter Collins ASAP.

Even though the Redbacks are wrapping up their 2013 winter season, the club is still a hive of activity, with junior and senior 7-a-side.

Junior 7-a-side takes place from 4.30pm on a Thursday at Redback Park and is open to everyone, new or existing players from under-6 to U15. Registration is $25 for new players (who did not play in winter 2013) and $5 a night.

If you sign on for Junior 7-a-side and the winter season in 2014, the $5 a night will come off your 2014 registration fees. Senior 7-a-side, is Friday nights starting from 6.15pm for men’s and 7.15pm for mixed. Email gattonred [email protected] or phone Samantha on 0457 005 117.
