Fire crews busy over weekend
ITWAS a busy weekend for local firefighters, with a number of small blazes having to be extinguished.
Fire crews were called out to a grass fire in Gatton on Saturday afternoon.
Five crews attended the blaze at 5.50pm, including two rural units from Grantham and two urban units from Gatton and Helidon.
The fire burnt through about four acres of land behind the church on Maitland St, Gatton.
Once under control, firefighters then proceeded to backburn more land to create a safer control area.
Crews were also called to a school following reports of smoke but this turned out to be a false alarm.
Later that night, at 11pm, firefighters were again called out to put out a small fire in the businesses storage area.
There was minimal damage caused by this fire.
