Val­leys se­cure a fiery draw

Val­leys played Ip­swich Brothers in three trial matches at Rose­wood on Satur­day night.

Val­leys’ re­serve grade played a thrilling en­counter, hang­ing on for a 30-all draw.

The first half was very en­ter­tain­ing, with some big hits from both teams.

The Dragons scored first, with Brothers hit­ting back with two tries to lead 12-6.

The Dragons then dug deep and with some good de­fence got on top and scored two tries to lead 18-12.

With 10 min­utes re­main­ing, Brothers gained mo­men­tum and scored two tries to lead 22-18 at the break.

The se­cond half had both teams play­ing very phys­i­cally and tem­pers started to flare.

Mid­way through both teams lost two play­ers to the sin bin.

Brothers started to get the up­per hand and scored to lead 26-24.

With 10 min­utes re­main­ing, two more play­ers were sent to the sin bin.

Brothers scored again to lead 30-24 and the Dragons hit back with a good try con­verted from the side line to level the score 30-all.

Brothers threw ev­ery­thing at the Dragons, and coach­ing staff said all play­ers per­formed well on the night.

The coach thanked Rose­wood, Lowood and Lai­d­ley play­ers who joined the Dragons out­fit to make a strong side.

Val­leys’ next game will be on Sun­day against Ormeau at Rose­wood.

The U19s were a bit un­der-done for their match but started strongly.

Brothers showed their dom­i­nance and kept the score­board tick­ing over, lead­ing 56-nil.

But the Dragons never gave up and scored a late try to go down 56-6.

The young side can only im­prove as they also play Ormeau. Rose­wood se­cond divi­sion had a win. Lead­ing 10-0 at the break, they went on to win 16-8.

Next game is Sun­day, March 13, at Rose­wood, U19s 1.30pm, re­serve grade 3pm.
