Valleys secure a fiery draw
Valleys played Ipswich Brothers in three trial matches at Rosewood on Saturday night.
Valleys’ reserve grade played a thrilling encounter, hanging on for a 30-all draw.
The first half was very entertaining, with some big hits from both teams.
The Dragons scored first, with Brothers hitting back with two tries to lead 12-6.
The Dragons then dug deep and with some good defence got on top and scored two tries to lead 18-12.
With 10 minutes remaining, Brothers gained momentum and scored two tries to lead 22-18 at the break.
The second half had both teams playing very physically and tempers started to flare.
Midway through both teams lost two players to the sin bin.
Brothers started to get the upper hand and scored to lead 26-24.
With 10 minutes remaining, two more players were sent to the sin bin.
Brothers scored again to lead 30-24 and the Dragons hit back with a good try converted from the side line to level the score 30-all.
Brothers threw everything at the Dragons, and coaching staff said all players performed well on the night.
The coach thanked Rosewood, Lowood and Laidley players who joined the Dragons outfit to make a strong side.
Valleys’ next game will be on Sunday against Ormeau at Rosewood.
The U19s were a bit under-done for their match but started strongly.
Brothers showed their dominance and kept the scoreboard ticking over, leading 56-nil.
But the Dragons never gave up and scored a late try to go down 56-6.
The young side can only improve as they also play Ormeau. Rosewood second division had a win. Leading 10-0 at the break, they went on to win 16-8.
Next game is Sunday, March 13, at Rosewood, U19s 1.30pm, reserve grade 3pm.
