Jason Cook sworn in as Deputy Mayor
NEWLY elected Lockyer Valley Regional councillor Jason Cook has made the giant leap into the role of deputy mayor.
The decision was made at the LVRC post election meeting last Wednesday, where new and returning councillors were also sworn in.
Returning councillor Jim McDonald nominated Cr Cook for deputy, which was backed by Cr Kathy McLean.
The new Deputy Mayor said he was excited to be given the opportunity of the role.
“I’m really looking forward to engaging with the community and engaging with the other councillors to get the results the community are looking for,” Cr Cook said.
“My business interests are sorted and now I can commit 100% to council and to this role.
“I don’t like doing anything unless I can do it properly.”
The other councillors were officially sworn in when the Declaration of Office was made and subscribed to by Mayor Tanya Milligan and Councillors McDonald, McLean, Cook, Chris Wilson and Michael Hagan.
Cr Janice Holstein’s absence was granted at the ceremony, due to family commitments.
Cr Milligan said she was excited that Cr Cook was nominated as her deputy.
“It’s a real privilege for him that his peers around the table nominated him for the position, and that it was a unanimous decision, Cr Milligan said.
“I’ve worked with Jason before.
“We were on the Cahill Park committee together so we know how one another works and already make a great team.
“He will absolutely excel in this role as my deputy.”
