Youths urged to join in culi­nary fun

THE Pre­serves, Sweets and Eggs sec­tion of the Lai­d­ley Show is a learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence for all ex­hibitors this year with the theme ‘cook­ing with spices’.

Over­all there are 50 classes vy­ing for the Kath Hauser Me­mo­rial Cham­pion Ex­hibit and Sash.

The Lai­d­ley Show will be held dur­ing the school hol­i­days, so teenagers, 12 years and un­der and six years and un­der are en­cour­aged to get their aprons on and cook up a storm.

Teens be­tween 13 and 19 can en­ter the apri­cot and ap­ple jam, lemon but­ter, mus­tard pick­les, tomato rel­ish, a plate of marsh­mal­low, co­conut ice, tof­fees in shapes, French jel­lies, rum balls, choco­late fudge and we even give you a recipe.

Six years and un­der can make ed­i­ble neck­laces or bracelets with bought sweets or choco­late crack­les, or even spi­ders with two eyes and eight legs.

In the egg sec­tion, they come in all shapes, sizes and colours in­clud­ing the bas­ket (a col­lec­tion of eggs) for Cham­pion and Re­serve Cham­pion Tro­phy and Sash.

Chief ste­ward Val­ries Hauser thanked ex­hibitors in ad­vance along with the stew­ards, judges and the sponsors for their sup­port.

Judg­ing starts at 11am on Fri­day, July 6. All en­tries must be in by 10am.
