Youths urged to join in culinary fun
THE Preserves, Sweets and Eggs section of the Laidley Show is a learning experience for all exhibitors this year with the theme ‘cooking with spices’.
Overall there are 50 classes vying for the Kath Hauser Memorial Champion Exhibit and Sash.
The Laidley Show will be held during the school holidays, so teenagers, 12 years and under and six years and under are encouraged to get their aprons on and cook up a storm.
Teens between 13 and 19 can enter the apricot and apple jam, lemon butter, mustard pickles, tomato relish, a plate of marshmallow, coconut ice, toffees in shapes, French jellies, rum balls, chocolate fudge and we even give you a recipe.
Six years and under can make edible necklaces or bracelets with bought sweets or chocolate crackles, or even spiders with two eyes and eight legs.
In the egg section, they come in all shapes, sizes and colours including the basket (a collection of eggs) for Champion and Reserve Champion Trophy and Sash.
Chief steward Valries Hauser thanked exhibitors in advance along with the stewards, judges and the sponsors for their support.
Judging starts at 11am on Friday, July 6. All entries must be in by 10am.
