FOLLOWING a devastating house fire last week in Gatton, support has been slowly building up for the fire victims.
So far, nine people have contacted the Gatton Star office to offer some form of assistance, including donations of cash, clothes and furniture.
Receiving next to no help from authorities, fire victim Charlene Manuel said she was eternally grateful for people’s support.
“I didn’t think I would get anything but to hear that it gives me a big lift to know that I can start again,” Ms Manuel said.
“With all these people helping I really thank them and appreciate it, I just don’t know what to do.”
Beds, washing machines and dining suites have been offered to the family but with no accommodation, donations of large items had to be put on hold.
The family hopes to find accommodation as soon as possible to return to normal life.
They fear if they don’t find accommodation soon the family will have to ask New Zealand authorities to help them return to the country.
■ The Gatton Star office is accepting donations for the family at 45 North Street, Gatton, and is open from 8.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
