Christ­mas com­pe­ti­tion re­turns for an­other year

SOM­ER­SET will be full of lights this fes­tive sea­son with 40 res­i­dents en­ter­ing the sec­ond an­nual Christ­mas Lights Com­pe­ti­tion.

For the next three weeks, homes and busi­nesses par­tic­i­pat­ing in the coun­cil ini­tia­tive have been en­cour­aged to have their dis­plays turned on nightly un­til 10pm.

Som­er­set Re­gional Coun­cil mayor Graeme Lehmann said it was great to see so many peo­ple get­ting into the spirit of Christ­mas.

“Christ­mas light dis­plays bring so much joy to peo­ple of all ages and it is fan­tas­tic to see res­i­dents and busi­nesses get­ting on board,” Cr Lehmann said.

“It’s all about help­ing spread the joy of Christ­mas.

“A big thank you to all en­trants who have taken the time to dec­o­rate their homes or busi­nesses and are help­ing spread the Christ­mas cheer in Som­er­set.”

Weather per­mit­ting, judg­ing of the prop­er­ties will take place this week and win­ners will be an­nounced on Mon­day, De­cem­ber 10.

“This is the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year that coun­cil has or­gan­ised the com­pe­ti­tion and of­fered prize­money to cat­e­gory win­ners,” Cr Lehmann said.

“There are some very im­pres­sive dis­plays en­tered into the com­pe­ti­tion that are guar­an­teed to get you into the Christ­mas spirit.”
