Denise ready to enjoy time off
Cafe owner looks back on good times
Name: Denise Morris
Marital Status: Married
What have you enjoyed most about running the Eagle Rock Cafe?
The friends we have made, becoming part of their family, being supported by them and being able to support them.
Why did you decide to get involved with the cafe?
We got out of hotels and because of my history with food it was natural to carry that on.
What are you most looking forward to about retirement?
Being able to attend family events and spend time with the family and my husband.
Have you met anyone famous, who and when?
Ross Wilson and the band Daddy Cool, some famous band members from aussie rock bands.
Jeff Thomson the cricketer. All have been past customers of ours over the past 28 years at Eagle Rock.
What is your greatest accomplishment in life?
To have remained happily married regardless of the hard times we have endured.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t be concerned what everyone else is doing, pay attention to what you are doing.
What is the one thing you would like to change in the world?
That workers receive the recognition they deserve. They should be getting all the discounts from government.
I believe you shouldn’t take from the well if you haven’t helped fill it.
Notwithstanding the number how old do you feel and why?
I feel about 26 as I have spent all of my working life with people that are between 15 and 30 and they have helped me stay young of mind. I will truly miss all my staff for they have given me that.
What is your favourite hobby or recreation, and why?
Dancing and sewing. Dancing keeps me fit and we meet lots of happy people and sewing gives me private time alone with my thoughts. A good balance. What is your happiest childhood memory?
Going to the beach with my dad on the bus and saying goodbye to all the things at the seaside from the back seat of the bus. What is your favourite place to visit in the district?
William Street – our home.
FAREWELL: Garry and Denise Morris closed the doors on the Eagle Rock Cafe in Laidley for the last time on March 31.
