A cheerful swipe at US politics starring Robert De Niro as a spin doctor who steps up to the plate when the president – soon up for re- election – is caught napping after revelations of an incident involving a girl scout. With White House aide Anne Heche ( pictured with De Niro), the two enlist Hollywood producer Dustin Hoffman to help create a media frenzy to detract from the scandal – what about a fake war? The script, by David Mamet and Hilary Henkin, affords a wealth of lucid characters: most vivid is Woody Harrelson as a psychopath mistakenly let out of a military prison.
